A useful rule of thumb: one ton of crushed stone covers roughly 115 square feet at 2 inches deep (about 108 for heavier crusher run).
Working the problem backwards: you know how much stone you have, or how much you can afford, and you want to know how far it goes. Enter a quantity and a depth and this returns the square footage it covers, plus the dimensions of a square that size.
About 115 square feet at 2 inches deep, 77 square feet at 3 inches, or 58 square feet at 4 inches, for typical crushed stone at 1.4 tons per cubic yard.
One cubic yard covers about 162 square feet at 2 inches, 108 square feet at 3 inches, and 81 square feet at 4 inches deep.
